Boathouse tales and recipes
During a recent cookbook discussion with Betsy Goree at The Book Shelf, she recommended The Boathouse, Tales and Recipes from a Southern Kitchen (Douglas W. Bostick and Jason R. Davidson, Joggling Board Press, 2006). The book, which includes amazing photographs, is a cultural and food history of the Lowcountry, and the western North Carolina Mountains. The Boathouse restaurants are familiar to many of us since they are located in both Charleston, and Lake Julian near Asheville. In addition to some wonderful recipes, the book is a great "read" for anyone who is interested in exploring the numerous connections between these two very special areas of the South. The photography alone is a good reason to purchase this book, but the recipes, arranged by season, are also noteworthy. Included today are three recipes we have tried, and enjoyed. This would be the perfect gift for anyone with ties to western North Carolina or Charleston. The book is in stock at The Book Shelf - stop by for a look.
