Strawberries, asparagus, and bluebirds

strawberries1The items in the title are certainly a sign that spring has finally arrived in our part of the southeast!  We were able to enjoy these beautiful strawberries  from South Carolina while sitting outside, and watching the bluebirds.  Our bluebirds got an early start this year, and the babies should be coming out of the box today or tomorrow.

The local asparagus will make numerous appearances in the next few weeks.  The first recipe we made was for pasta with asparagus, lemon, and goat cheese.

Our tailgate shopping will produce more and more great local produce as the weather warms up.  We should see lettuce, arugula, radishes, and Swiss chard soon.  If you haven’t tried grilled pizza topped with sauteed Swiss chard as one of the toppings, you are in for a treat.  We will be outside grilling pizza soon, and you will see from the photos that Swiss chard and pizza are a great combination.

Another great photo! Glad to hear that the bluebirds aren’t part of the recipe! (we were a bit concerned there) We’ll have local asparagus soon and will be sure to try it. We’ll be looking forward to a fig & prosciutto grilled pizza recipe soon.
